EXPERIENCE
RESEARCH FELLOW, UNIVERSITY OF TEXASÂ AUSTIN
Jul 2017 - Sept 2019
Established automated data pipelines for data extraction, loading and transformation to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources
Developed spatial data models and mappings to integrate 6 large disparate data sources
Coded automated data workflows (using PostgreSQL, Python and R) for metric computation and visualization
Developed data analysis tool (back-end and UI) to showcase value of using data-driven methods for decision-making
Closely worked with traffic engineers to refine UI and understand client’s needs
Refined oral and visual communication to describe quantitative methods clearly and concisely
Advanced data storage and archiving initiative for public agency
Instigated progress at critical stages by establishing essential workflows
Researched technical and industry developments, tools and trends to recognize best practices
Delivered key recommendations on transit system evaluation to public institution
Quickly developed transportation domain-specific knowledge working with geospatial data
Exercised self-managing skills to carry out integral project deliverables
Refined project and time managing skills
ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER, DREAM THINK THANK
2013 - 2015
Established structure to founder’s vision to execute clear deliverables:
Gained nonprofit status through the Rocky Mountain Peace Institute
Proposed 3 grants: Making All Voices Count (2014), and John Templeton Foundation (2015, 2016).
Developed strong written communication skills to succinctly share ideas
EDUCATION
UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO DENVER, M.A. IN ECONOMICS
2014 - 2016
I advanced and refined my understanding of modeling principles and methods as well as economics acumen. Key courses include microeconomics, two semesters of econometrics with a focus on causal effects, mathematical economics and probabilistic modeling (including Monte Carlo simulation and Markov chains). Subsequently, I posses a repertoire of rigorous tools for data analysis.
UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO BOULDER, B.A. IN ECONOMICS WITH MINOR IN APPLIED MATH
2008 -2013
I obtained a robust quantitative background as well as bolstered my innate critical-thinking and problem-solving capabilities. Key courses include theoretical and applied econometrics, statistics (two semesters), linear algebra, probability, differential equations, classical mechanics, and principles of quantum mechanics. All combine to showcase my curious mindset as well as intrinsic drive to expand my boundaries.
PROJECTS
THE IMPACT OF SAME-SEX MARRIAGE LEGALIZATION ON STATE SUICIDE RATES
Fall 2015
I created a 5-part Jupyter Notebook series examining the impact of same-sex marriage state legalization on state suicide rates for young males between 1999 - 2014
Developed and presented novel research employing econometric causal inference
Implemented econometric analyses with Python and R programming languages to:
Evaluate the effect of same-sex marriage state legalization on state suicide rates for young males
Establish statistical methods comparable to proprietary software with open source tools
Showcase a negative and significant (plausibly causal) correlation between explanatory and outcome variables using longitudinal data for causal analysis
NEUROECONOMICS. AN EMERGING FIELD OF THEORY AND PRACTICE
Summer 2011
I quickly assimilated information on unfamiliar topic to develop and present culminating research paper.
Developed introductory paper on neuroeconomics, a field synthesizing neuroscientific and economic principles to better understand human decision-making.
Created a bio-psychosocial model of human decision-making, aiming to provide a comprehensive outline to the factors that influence human decisions (biological, psychological, social).
